Pet Friendly Homes in Boca Raton: My 3 Firsts - All Roads Lead To Real Estate

My 3 Firsts - All Roads Lead To Real Estate

My 3 Firsts - All Roads Lead To Real Estate

It was the first time I've been bitten by a dog.  How does this relate to real estate?  Hang on, I promise to connect the dots.

ButtonsThis particular dog who bit me is owned by a fellow agent who lives a few houses from me.  Since we moved in last year, she rarely speaks to me.  I don't get it, but what can I say.  I didn't know she lived there when we bought the house.   However, there are over 7000 agents in Palm Beach County and they all need a place to live!  The way I look at it is, there is enough business for everyone.  We should be helping each other, not the other way around.

But I digress - back to the dog bite.  I was taking my older dog, Buttons, who is close to 14 and deaf (see photo) for her last walk of the night.  It was dark.  In seconds, this other dog came flying down the street.  While I scooped Buttons into my arms to protect her, this dog was jumping up and bit me on the butt.  Definitely a first for me!

I told said agent, Your dog just bit me.  She said, "My dog doesn't bite."  Seriously?  So I texted her a photo so she could see.   I came to learn this dog's rabies vaccine had expired middle of September 2016. It was overdue.

Long story short - I was advised by my vet to go to a walk-in clinic for a tetanus shot, which leads me to my next first - real estate, that is!

I went to walk-in clinic and requested a tetanus shot.  I was given antibiotics but refused the shot because of my  hyper sensitivities.  I was told to see my allergist.

I called my allergist, but he was swamped because of backup from Hurricane Matthew.  So the next morning I went to his office, but there was a wait.  Which leads me to my next first - real estate, that is!

margaret romeWhile in the waiting room, I struck up a conversation with another woman.  During the course of conversation, she told me she was originally from Baltimore, and her family still lived there. I said to her, I have a friend in Baltimore, and asked if she knew Margaret Rome.  She told me - yes, she knew Margaret and that Margaret had shown her some condos.  She went on to say she reads Margaret's ads in the Baltimore newspaper every Sunday and, if I wanted to see them, she'd save them for me.

Now, what are the odds of sitting in my allergist's office, almost 3 days after my first dog bite, and I meet someone who happens to know Margaret Rome?  You can't make this stuff up!  Wait, it gets better!

My allergist researched preservative-free tetanus shots, wrote a script and added two specific companies he wanted me to use.  It's not common, so he sent me to Passport Health, "Vaccine Specialists."

My appointment was for 1:00.  I had my shot (all this just to get a tetanus shot!)  The staff were all nurses and very professional.  I was talking to the manager telling her why I had been running around all day (but that's another blog of non-disclosure.)  I went on to tell her I had a woman and her daughter sitting in a hotel, and I needed to find them a condo asap.

You're not going to believe this!  The nurse took me to the back of the lab to meet her daughter, who was working on a computer - who just happens to have a 2/2 condo for sale.

Now, I ask you again: What are the odds that from my first dog bite, from a fellow agent's dog, I will go on to meet someone who knows Margaret and find yet a third person selling the type of condo I just happen to need?  Like I said, you can't make this stuff up!

That's 3 firsts for me.  It started with real estate and it ended with real estate (and don't forget Margaret in the middle.)

What did I learn?  Well, my butt is sore but healing - thank goodness I have plenty of padding!  I learned that, although dogs and real estate are my passions, I have to watch my butt (pun intended!)  I also learned all roads lead to home or, in this case, to real estate.

What are the odds? I'm thinking you should play these numbers in the lottery, your house number, her house number or the dates of the different events. It sounds like you are on a roll!

Wow, who knew that having another agent in your very own neighborhood could be such a pain in the BUTT?  I do since they go door knocking nearly every weekend.

Hi Elyse... talk about coincidences! Wow! Your story of the dog bite reminded me of that great seen in one of the Pink Panther movies where Peter Sellers asks "does your dog bite" in a bad French accent. And after being told "non" and being bitten by  the dog, the other guy says "ees not my dog!"

Trying to think of the summary. "What goes round comes around"?  "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"?  "Even the dog days in real estate are good"?  Take your pick.

There are no coincidences. Glad that all worked out for the best and an unfortunate incident could lead to good things. Good to know there are preservative free tetanus shots. Wish it were the same for all injections.

Cute story! It reminds me of my first dog bite. It was also on the butt! I was a pre-teen and at my neighbors house. Their little ankle-biter jumped up and nailed me on the tushy! I'm glad your bite gave way to some promising new business.

That's one first I never want to share! Your experience is one more reason why I'm glad I live on plenty of acres where my dogs can run free. I'd be paranoid about putting them on a leash and walking through a neighborhood with who knows how many mean dogs.

Posted by Theresa Akin (CORPUS CHRISTI REALTY GROUP) almost 2 years ago

Hi Elyse. Sorry to hear about the bite. I was once bitten many years ago on the leg. I've always been of the mindset that there is enough business for everyone but it's absolutely amazing to see how few agents feel that way. Margaret sure gets around. We've also spoken many times. Glad you found what you needed.

Elyse, interesting story. I can relate to the dog-bite. A Seller's tiny one (chihuahua) tried to bite me when showing a home to a Buyer. Maybe, because I didn't honor it with my attention, but was just focusing on my Buyer client. Needless to say the Seller said that her dog doesn't bite, and I lost any interest in selling her house, too. My Buyer client wasn't thrilled with the house, either. We left in a hurry. Congratulations on the award!
