Pet Friendly Homes in Boca Raton: But it's only a dog

But it's only a dog

But it's only a dog they say, they say.

Only a dog?  I have a hard time with that.  Our dogs understand us.  They often know what we're thinking.  They know when we're coming home, because they wait for us.  They know the sound of the car.  They know what time dinner is served.  When I'm working, they hang out with me in my office, whether it's 5:00 am or 5:00 pm.  When I'm sick, my dogs are by my side.  They are protective and giving comfort.  Yes, I believe they do understand.    If I go for a walk, I've always got company. Crazy, some say, maybe; but to me, it's my way of life.

pet friendly condos in boca raton flIf I go to the dentist, they know.  If I have a blood test, they know.  If they're sick, I know. We are all in  tune with each other.  They are amazing creatures and we are blessed to share our lives with them.  When we return home, they are always there with a big greeting and happy to see us.   Doesn't matter if we've been gone 5 minutes or 5 days.   Our dogs never fail to make me smile.

But it's only a dog.   People looking for pet-friendly homes in Boca Raton FL have told me this is what they have been told.  Can't you give one of them away?  Seriously?   Do you want to live in that community in Boca Raton that badly?  If so, maybe the answer for you is yes.  For me, the answer is unequivocally no.  If a community will not accept my dogs, then I will find another one that will.  There are pet friendly gated communities in Boca Raton.

In my world, they're not just dogs.   They're part of our family, our furkids.   Some people may think it's crazy we installed a matte floor versus glossy because we were afraid the dogs would slip (one has back problems.)   People  may think it's crazy that our dogs sleep on the bed.  To us, it makes perfect sense and it works.

Good morning Elyse. This is a wonderful post and with me you are completely on point. Family  is family.

There is a community in our area that allows cats but no dogs --- for buyers in that price point and looking at that type of inventory, I always lead with that qualification. If you are dog lover/owner then it is out.  There are loads of others where I jokingly say "dog is required" because they are so often seen.

I saw a post elsewhere a day or two ago that is apt - I paraphrase....Loving and caring for our pets is not just a matter of convenience....

Elyse, what a wonderful post and pet loving buyers looking for condos in the Boca Raton and Delray Beach areas of Florida  need to call you as you know all the pet friendly condos in the area!

Its been nine months since our little Holly died so suddenly from cancer, and I still miss her so much!  As you said, our dogs are more than pets; they are loving and faithful members of the family and we can learn lots from them with their unconditional and faithful love!

My brother Anthony would agree with you any day of the week.  He makes his living taking care of animals that "are not just dogs".....excellent points in your post Elyse.

Well our little girl is growing up and she does not understand that she is a dog. Go for the keys and she hangs on the shoes since it is her duty to go along for the ride.

I also specialize in dog friendly communities in North Palm Beach County and we are just a few communities that offer dog friendly beaches in the county.

My dog Diesel was just diagnosed with diabetes last week. which was  areal stresser for me.   He goes everywhere with me and I take care of him like a child.  Only a dog?  Not in my view!

Elyse,  You are not alone. There are many people who treat their pets like kids. My siblings say that our mother treated her pets better than her kids

No way. No how. Absolutely not. Never would I live where pets are not allowed. It would be a cold and lifeless place. That is not for me.

Terrific post. It is so true that there can be many obstacles when searching for a pet-friendly home especially in condo heavy markets. Glad you have your ear to the ground. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Good Morning Elyse Berman, Boca Raton, FL . I am more than 100 percent with you on this subject matter. I have four dogs and as what you have articulated so well, they feel what feel. When we are sick, they won't whine because they know we are not well. If someone tells me they are only dogs, I will be offended because my dogs are the reason why I have the motivation to wake up in the morning. They are the reason why I want to keep myself healthy. Without me, they will be lost.

Dogs are way more than 'just' dogs.  They are family.  I really don't like restrictions on pets when it comes to communities....there should only be restrictions on bad owners.

Hi Elyse.  Yes, the pet lovers can have a difficult time finding some suitable condos on occasion.  Though, options are available when they have a pet friendly Realtor like you.

I wish I had room in my schedule for a dog but I do not. Plus, I have 3 cats who probably would not like us getting a dog. I had to find homes for the birds because I don't have enough time to devote to them. But our 3 cats are like family to us.

Elyse, your furry kids are precious.  I've been without a dog for six months and miss having a furry family member.

Here is a photo of my last baby.  Lucia was a rescue who was near death when we found her. My daughter and I were able to give he one year as a princess, but she gave us much more!Lucia

Elyse, my blood boils when I hear "it's only a dog or a cat" they are our family... some of our friends call us animal farmers because we are the caretakers of three cats and a dog:))Endre

Renters or buyers who want a condo/townhouse can have a very hard time finding a new home when they have dog or cat family members. There are definitely options but they aren't easy to find.

And I totally agree that dogs understand us, and we understand them. Mine has terrible hearing when I tell her it's time for medicine or eye drops or something, but she can hear our car engine start no matter where she is. She's such an imp.

Elyse, great post. You know how I feel about my cat. Our pets are our family and should be treated as such. Anyone who feels their pet is "just a dog or cat" should not be privileged to have that pet who gives them unconditional love.
