I have written on and off over the past year or so of my parents' illnesses, my father's passing and the trials and tribulations of my mother's dementia. For those not on Facebook who may have noticed I've been MIA for a while now, my sweet beautiful mother has lost her battle with the dreaded disease of dementia.
It is with great sadness that I write this post as I did on Facebook. I no longer hear Oklahoma daily. The room is quiet. The house is quiet except for the barking of my little butterflies, my paps, my girls. I no longer hear Frank Sinatra and all the musicals of the 50s and 60s that I was raised with coming from her room. I made sure she heard Frank until the very end. She adored him. After all, she did cut school to see him at the Paramount in New York!
My mother, in her far-gone state, knew I was there for her until the very end. Although her speech was virtually gone, she was able to thank me and that will stay with me forever.
Farewell, Mom. I miss you and love you always.
